13:00   Lunch in a restaurant in the centre of Cascais.

15:00   We will go for a walk armed with our sketch books and all the materials we need to make wonderful sketches of any themes that inspire us. You can also take photos of the places that catch your eye to help your work the next day. Feel free to make notes of the colours you see.

Starting at Cascais Bay with the local fishermen and boats, we will then move on to see Cascais Town Hall and the statue of former monarch Dom Pedro I.

We head towards the cidadela (citadel) passing in front of elegant late 19th-century houses and the modern Cascais Cultural Centre. Our next stop will be the Casa de Santa Maria, a lovely house built at the beginning of the 20th century and Santa Marta lighthouse, which is an icon of the village of Cascais.

DAY 3

9:30   In the morning we will go to the studio with the tutor where you can transform your initial sketches from the previous day into amazing paintings.

13:00   Lunch in a restaurant in the centre of Cascais.

15:00   We will explore the Marshal Carmona Park. Here we will visit the interesting Palace of the Counts of Castro Guimarães. This palace was built at the end of the 19th century and has many furnished rooms and a rich library, as well as many paintings and other collections.

Next we will go to Cascais Marina with its stunning boats and yachts.

Throughout the afternoon you are welcome to make sketches in any medium in preparation for what you will paint the next morning.

DAY 4

9:30   In the morning we head to the studio with the tutor and you can produce completed paintings from your initial sketches.

13:00   Lunch in a restaurant in the centre of Cascais.

15:00   We are going to walk along the Paredão, which means the road running parallel to the beach. We will cross the quaint streets of Cascais, such as the Rua Direita (high street), and you will have a chance to see examples of early 20th-century architecture.

Then we will walk near Cascais’s beaches. Once again, we let the scenery act as our muse ready for the following day’s painting.

DAY 5

9:30   In the morning we will go to the studio with the tutor where you can complete your paintings.

13:00   Lunch in a restaurant in the centre of Cascais.

15:00   We will return to the cidadela or citadel, this time to explore inside and visit the Cascais Citadel Palace.

DAY 6

9:00   After breakfast we will visit Lisbon. We will travel to Lisbon along a panoramic coastal road affording a spectacular view of all the beaches from Cascais to Lisbon.

You will have the opportunity to see Terreiro do Paço/Praça do Comércio, one of the most amazing squares in the world; Baixa – the old downtown district; Chiado, a quarter with aristocratic houses, small shopping centres, boutiques, historical cafes and old bookstores.

13.00   We will have lunch in a restaurant near the Tagus river.

While in Belém we highly recommend trying the famous pastéis de Belém, delicious and warm egg custard tarts dusted with cinnamon or icing sugar and made from one of the oldest and tastiest recipes in the world.
