Workshop
The objective of the watercolor workshop is to share the fundamental tools and practices of painting a portrait realistically. My wish is that, through this experience, the unfounded fear of watercolor will be lost; that you enjoy, learn from mistakes and help push your further work.
The intention is that on the face to face days of the workshop we focus fully on the portrait painting, so the workshop will consist of two parts. The first is the introductory phase: prior to the workshop, the student will have access to preparatory videos (described below) which will be an excellent guide and introduction. The second phase will be to paint the portrait in the days of the face-to-face workshop.
I have been teaching regular classes twice a week for ten years plus I’ve taught almost fifty watercolor workshops. I have taught in England (IWM22), Spain, Rome, Caorle, Italy, Argentina, Uruguay and Mexico. I have also taught online regularly with my groups and through Watercolor Live and Terracotta.

From the photographic reference that I will provide, we will apply direct and indirect watercolor painting methods in their variants of wet on wet, wet on dry and dry brush. Emphasis will be placed on the good use of color with a reduced palette of transparent colors, achieving the effect of fleshiness of the skin. The painting will be the result of the sum of direct and indirect painting achieved with transparent layers of watercolor; studying and emphasizing the management of tonal values, edges, planes in the image and color.
We will break down the bases and different techniques of watercolor and we will apply these principles to our work. I will demonstrate my process and I will guide and give instructions to each one. Theory + Practice.
The course is designed so that beginners, intermediate or professionals can take advantage of it. Those who have already taken the course will continue advancing in the technique working with new or their own reference images.
All levels of experience are welcome, from beginners to professionals. It does not matter if this world is new or if the student has decades of experience, this course can be used for all levels, as I adapt to each one. On the other hand, the maximum number of attendees is 18, the minimum number is 10.
By working in this hybrid mode: videos plus face to face, I have received very good comments from students who have followed this method, since they have had more time to familiarize themselves with watercolor and with my way of handling it, the progress of these students has been very outstanding.

First phase - videos
The work done from the recordings adds up to two days of work, in this way, the student will have a very complete workshop that includes previous hours of instruction and practice with watercolor.
Second phase – Face-to-face
Two days of work of 6 hours each.
The intention is to show demonstrations, theory and reviews every working day.

The objective of the workshop is for the student to obtain the fundamental tools to work with watercolor, in no case is it the creation of masterpieces. If you have this pressure, please get rid of it, my greatest wish is that you enjoy this experience, that you learn from your mistakes and that it be a boost for your further work. On the other hand, keep in mind that the work done is not the subject of exhibitions or contests as they are workshop exercises.
